About YogaPath

A reference library for asanas, not a wellness blog.

Why this exists

Yoga is the best-documented physical practice in the world and the worst-documented one online. Search any pose name and the results are a wall of unsourced medical claims — poses that cure thyroid disorders, control blood sugar, detoxify organs and cure infertility — wrapped around instructions that are usually three lines long and often lifted from somewhere else.

YogaPath publishes 209 asanas the other way round: full instructions, the muscles actually involved, the mistakes that actually happen, and a prominent, specific list of who should not do the pose. The benefits are described mechanically because that is the only kind of benefit a website can honestly claim. The method page explains the rules and the code that enforces them.

Who runs it

YogaPath is built and maintained by Amit Sharma, a marketer based in Auckland, New Zealand, alongside a family of free reference sites and calculators published at amit.marketing. I am not a yoga teacher and I am not a doctor, which is precisely why this site sticks to describing movement, naming poses correctly and being loud about cautions rather than handing out health advice.

How it is funded

Advertising, through Google AdSense, and links to my own fitness challenge at PeakForm. Nothing here is a paid placement, no pose page has ever been written to suit an advertiser, and there is no supplement being sold at the bottom of a pose page.

Corrections

Corrections are prioritised over new pages — particularly a missing contraindication or a wrong transliteration. Tell me and it gets fixed on the next build.
